Getting Settled

Well it's been almost 2 weeks since we closed on our new home, and its been non-stop ever since!  We are well pleased with our home.  During construction, I wondered whether the space was going to be enough for us.  But now that we've moved in, I know that is just the home for us.

There are a couple of things that took the sting out our joy (aside for the closing snafu).  First the sod is a mess!  Some of it got too much water and some not enough, so they are going to have to pretty much re-sod the entire lot.  Additionally, one of the trees they planted is going to need to be removed because it blocks the view in the front yard.  Secondly, the surround sound speakers in the family room were a disappointment.  Don't get me wrong the sound is great, but I did not think about the placement of the speakers.  I had them installed in the ceiling.  Well our bedroom is directly above the family room.  You can almost hear the speakers just as clearly in our bedroom as you can in the family room.

The move went well.  It took the movers no time to get our stuff moved in, and nothing was broken!  I must say that I am tired of installing blinds!  We tried to be proactive with those by measuring during construction and buying them over time.  Well I didn't realize that the window casings all aren't the same sized.  So I have gotten a quick lesson in the world of measuring and installing blinds.

A bump in the road, Lets Do It Again, and finally closed!

What a rollercoaster ride these 24 hours have been.  We had a lovely time doing the final walk thru with our PM yesterday.  We were chilling on the porch less than an hour from our closing when my cell rings.  It was the Operations Mgr from NVR.  Calling to let us know we werent closing that day and may not close for a week!  At that point, I was ready to explode!  If youve followed our blog you know we brought up the issue with our address (1800 vs. 1800).  Well our appraisal showed 1802 and not 1800 which was the issue.  Never mind the fact that I brought this up numerous times and two weeks ago my wife emailed our loan processor to try and prevent any closing issues.  We spent the next two hours calling to the highest levels of NVR.
We had to wait an hour before we started  closing, so my wife and I watched Lets Do It Again on my Iphone to keep from going off on someone.  We were able to get closed today, but they are going to get a nice detailed survey from us.  Nevertheless its a wrap!  We are so thankful to finally have our. keys!  I will post pics in a few days.

Pre-Settlement Demonstration...check!

We had our demo yesterday.  Aside from our sod in the backyard browning a bit, there were no areas of concern.  We started at 11 and finished around 3:30.  We went thru a nice sized binder with warranty and care information, then started in the Master Bath and went thru the entire house.   I think my wife was trying to use up all of the blue tape:-)  All in all the house looked great!

I have been checking the state's online property records and our lot was showing up as 1800, but every time I brought it up to our PM he stated that it was indeed 1802.  Well of course, yesterday it was confirmed that our address is 1800.  Too bad I made all of the utility appointments.  I actually had to be given another installation date by Verizon...smh!  I am not happy about that one.

We received notice today that NVR has given the clear to close.  We have one final walk thru on Monday with our PM at 1:30, and then onto closing at 3:00.  This is the only time I'll be wishing the weekend would be a quick one:-)
